MIKE BASQUES 

ACADEMY DIRECTOR 

Mike Basques has been a Correctional Sheriff’s Deputy with the County of Sonoma
since 2006 and retired in April of 2019. He currently works as the Academy Operations
Director for Independence Indoor Shooting Range where he is responsible for
managing the instructors, scheduling, courses, course curriculum and firearms
instruction. While working in law enforcement, Mike served on the Mental Health, Field
Training officer and fire life safety and CPR teams from 2008-2018. Mike is a USCCA
and NRA certified firearms instructor. He also holds a Range Master and other
certifications in less than lethal and Crisis Negotiations training. Mike has an associate
degree in Fire Technologies and he worked as a Fire Fighter/ EMT prior to his law
enforcement career.
Mike became a certified firearms instructor in 2020 and has been teaching the instructor
level classes for Independence Indoor Shooting range (IIS) since 2020. Prior to his
work with law enforcement, firefighter/EMT and IIS, Mike was an active member of the
United States Navy where he served 3 years. Within those 3 years, Mike served
aboard the USS New Orleans LPH-11 as an (AMH) Aviation Machinist Hydraulics. Mike
had two deployments to the middle east and southeast Asia to include Australia/ US
Joint exercises. He received letters of Commendation and letters of appreciation. In
2019, Mike, along with his wife and two children moved to Meridian, Idaho. He
continues to teach firearms instruction with professionalism and integrity.
